Elspeth, Knight-Errant is a planeswalker who's effects need loyalty counters to use. The number of loyalty counters also means how much damage she can take before she is destroyed. You cannot have more than one Elspeth, Knight-Errant on the field at once. Planeswalkers can only be targeted as you would a creature, however this card isn't destroyed by world affects from cards like Wrath of God or Mass Calcify.
Elspeth is one of the most popular planeswalkers not only because of her last ability, but +3/+3 and flying can really mess someone up. Odds are, you're going to be able to hit them with flying unless they have something that is/or can block flying. Making the solider tokens allows her to fit nicely into prime soldier decks, in which the +3/+3 and flying comes in handy since most soldiers don't have flying. Her last ability is a real treat because everything you control for the rest of the game is indestructible.
