Persist is a triggered ability that caused the permanent to come back into play if it had no -1/-1 counters on it. Once this ability has been activated and the permanent is returned to play, it get's a -1/-1 counter on it. This means that (if it's a creature) it's power and toughness are reduced by 1. Cards that are returned to play through Persist are affected by summoning sickness and cannot attack or use a tap ability since they are being returned INTO play.

This ability has appeared in Eventide and Shadowmoor.
